The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) offers live teleconferences featuring experts in the field of mesothelioma, who will discuss developments in research and treatment. If you miss the live broadcast, the Meso Foundation offers the program as a podcast on its website. There is no cost to participate.
You can sign up at the Meso Foundation website to receive alerts about upcoming installments of the program, called the “Meet the Experts” series. The most recent program was broadcast March 6 and featured Dr. Dan Sterman on the topic of “Recent Advances in Mesothelioma Gene Therapy.” Dr. Sterman is the associate professor of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center.
Nearly 100 people joined the live teleconference, and also chatted with each other during the call through the Meso Foundation Facebook page.
According to a Meso Foundation news release, the series “was created to provide mesothelioma patients, their families and others interested with the most up-to-date mesothelioma information.”
Mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer that affects the lining of the lungs, abdomen or heart. It is caused by exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma affects about 3,000 people in the United States each year. There is currently no known cure for meso.
